The Gospel

The word gospel means “good news.” But to understand why the gospel is good news, we first have to understand the bad news.

The Bad News

The Bible tells us that all of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Sin separates us from the holy God who created us, and the penalty for sin is death and eternal separation from Him (Romans 6:23). No amount of good works, religion, or effort can make us right with God.

The Good News

But God, in His love and mercy, made a way for us to be forgiven. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live the perfect, sinless life we could not live. On the cross, Jesus took the punishment we deserve, dying in our place. Three days later, He rose from the grave, conquering sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:3–4).

Through Jesus, we can be reconciled to God, forgiven of our sins, and given eternal life.

Our Response

The gospel calls for a response:

Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

The Gift of Eternal Life

Salvation is not something we can earn. It is a free gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8–9). When we trust in Him, we are made new—given a new heart, a new purpose, and the promise of eternal life with God.

Will You Respond?

The gospel changes everything. The question is—will you respond to Jesus today?
